The difficult part about studying, as I've found it, is if you don't use it you lose it. While learning information for a test is good. It's not as good as actually putting the information to practical use. With out practice it's just a lot of background noise and extra words. This holds true for everything, the old saying practice makes perfect didn't just come from no where.
The theory seems to apply to everything in life, as I've experienced it. i used never be able to make a center part in the back of my head, but with practice I can do it on the first try almost every time.
An odd example perhaps, but it's what got me thinking about this topic today.
Its has been asked many times - "what type of job can you get with a philosophy degree?"
Philosophy majors are just one of the majors which graduate with a bachelor's degree in liberal arts. These degrees are sometimes a little vague, but in my opinion, these types of degrees are very valuable in career pursuits.
Whatever the focus, getting a bachelor's degree is a challenge, and I've found that students have a good chance of "learning how to learn" during the process. Its that skill which is most helpful, no matter what direction is taken after college.

Note cards are one of my favorite ways to learn. They offer the ease of being compact and easy to travel with as well, as being excellent for self testing.
One of the hardest parts of studying for any examination is figuring out what you know and don't know. Note cards make it easy to parse out the information that is familiar to you, and set aside the info you need to focus on to learn.
The process of making the note cards is also very helpful in the studying process. It allows you to prime yourself with the information. Once you get a first pass at it, everything else is just condensing it into your brain.
